You are probably lying to yourself if you think the answer is a resounding: Yes. In so many dental offices, when I walk in to the reception area, the team member doesn’t so much as look up or manage a smile. They throw a clipboard in my general direction, vaguely asking me to sign in. And believe it or not – sometimes you still have to wait for them to pull that ridiculous sliding-glass window to the side and poke their head out.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. I insist that your team stand up to welcome your office’s guest by their first name, have a smile on their face and extend a welcoming handshake.
Ask your team how they would greet a guest coming into their home for dinner, or a holiday party. Now, present the question: What is different about when you welcome our guests into the office?
PS – Just as you may have a beverage or a snack waiting for guests in your home, it doesn’t hurt to bring that to your office, as well!
