Should Dentists Be On Facebook?

Everyone is talking about it: Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Linked In. This leaves many dentists wondering if this marketing strategy makes sense for their dental office. The answer is a resounding yes! For most dental offices, the two sites that are most beneficial are Facebook (“Like” pages) and YouTube.

On Facebook, you can post Facebook-only specials on cosmetic services, information about new hires and useful content (such as info on sedation dentistry.) YouTube is a great place to post short (under 2:00 minute) videos of the doctor welcoming new patients or a panoramic view of the office. 

Enlist a tech-savvy team member to handle the social media marketing functions for your business. He or she will welcome the additional responsibility and autonomy, and your practice will have the chance to catch up with the rest of the world! Basic Facebook sites are easy to set up, but if you want more bells and whistles – there are plenty of marketing companies that will perform this service.

Once the site is set up, there are three things to consider:

1) Define your goals: Decide on measurable, realistic goals like “Increase new patients by 10% this year.”

2) Define your audience: Facebook allows you to search for contacts by gender, zip code, age and more. This is a perfect targeted marketing strategy!

3)      Define your content objectives: Determine how often you will post (ie: once a day) and what the content will say. Free sites like allow you to write posts once a month and schedule them for each day. No need to log in to Facebook daily!
